PushPopDesign is Looking for a User Interface/ User Experience Designer/ Partner in Crime

I currently lead up a small design firm of sorts.  We are positioned in a unique space, in that we perform the following three functions:

  •  UI/ UX design for mobile, web and desktop applications
  • Creative coding for commercials, print and installations (specifically using OpenFrameworks and Processing)
  • Sound design for a variety of media

I’d contemplated phasing one or two of these areas out for the sake of specialization, but work continues to come in for each.   Sometimes we’ve been fortunate enough to have two or even three of these areas to overlap on a single project.

Anyways, what I’m really looking for is a partner in crime UI/UX Designer who could work with me/ take on projects when things get busy.  Down the road there may be an opportunity to start a more official kind of position, but for now I am specifically looking for someone freelance, mid to senior level, and would have bandwidth to take on some work in the coming months.

UI/UX partner would ideally possess all or most of the following:

  • Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and deliverables.  Familiarity with Omnigraffle and creating legible wireframes, site maps, etc.
  • Natural leader, good conversational/communication skills with clients.
  • Code-savvy.  Doesn’t have to be a full-on front-end developer, but should understand the current affordances and limitations of software for mobile, web and desktop applications.
  • Visual Design aptitude.  Left to my own devices, all of my application visual design is in Fireworks (I sub-contract out if I need more than that), so good photoshop skills are always a plus.
  • Marketing/ Strategy skills.  This is one area where we are currently lacking.  If you can bring any of this to the table, awesome.
  • Research interest.  Another area where we need help.  It would be awesome to have someone who was well-read in HCI or a related subject and could justify their design decisions via research techniques, as opposed to just going on intuition each time.
  • An added plus is not necessarily involvement, but an interest in the other work we are doing in Creative Coding and Sound Design.  As mentioned before, sometimes these projects overlap in interesting ways.  Check out more details here: www.pushpopdesign.com (site to be updated soon!)

One more thing.  It doesn’t matter where you are located, so long as you have a reliable means of communication; ie strong internet connection.  US citizenship or visa is preferred at this time, though only for simplicities with accounting.

If you are interested in discussing this opportunity further, please email me at timstutts at pushpopdesign dot com with a link to your portfolio, cv/resume, and hourly rate.

Thank you,
