Paul and I are currently in Bilbao within the Basque region of Spain after a couple days of driving through south France. Bilbao is an industrial river town that still seems to be waking up after the Franco dictatorship. We’re staying in a hostel by the riverside, adjacent to a factory that goes bonk in the night, spewing out a mystery chemical into the atmosphere above. The Euskal Herria area has it’s own language, different from both Spanish and French, with k’s, tx’s, and z’s all over—it feels like we’re in an entirely different country. I’ll have some pictures posted soon.
Playing catch up from the other day…
Driving to Carcassonne from Andorra, we made our way over the Pyrenees, passing through a vacant ski town awaiting the winter season, and a onto a dozen rustic villages in the foothills of south France. We arrived in Carcassonne late at night, parked illegally between the rows of a vineyard, then walked over to the castle for some exploring.
